Week 6 6th May 2014 - 9th May 2014

Last week of placement and I will sure miss it! For my last week I was assigned back to Sarah point job of using Auto desk Revit. I couldn't remember the last time I used it, so a colleague Matt helped me a give me some training on how to use it, which I found it very confusing and hard to use. But Revit is a good and easy way to use, which is better than Auto CAD. I had to do over 600 plans within this week, which I found really stressful and annoying to do.

Week 5 - 28th April 2014 - 2nd May 2014

My fifth week in wow! Really enjoying it up to know! This week has been amazing! I got put onto another exciting job! This job is very recent and they give it to me to design, in which I had to recreate an apartment on Google sketch up and redesign it to give the client a feel of how it would be if they lived there. I was given the measurements of the apartment off a plan they had drew up for me, and off I went. My colleagues give me an idea of what the clients would of liked it to look like, which I did use the idea of the apartments in Manchester of the Asia house and the idea of the bed platforms over the kitchen and bathroom. The design took me overall a day to come together with in the end.

Photos of the Google sketch up are to scale at 1:50.

After finishing my design, I was assigned the tasks to Photoshop two of the Google sketch up photos and add people into them and readjust the colour into the photo's.

Week 4 - 31st March 2014 - 4th April 2014

For this week I was assigned to my own job accompanied by Alan the director, and Louis my colleague, which was a job in Manchester called 'Parsonage Gardens'. This job was a new upcoming job in which the client wants the whole building refurbished and install in a new roofing. My task was to use Auto CAD and from the plan of the building and draw some elevations up, this took me most of the day as I had to look over pictures of the building and count some bricks and use a sheet I was given that had the measurement of the bricks.
But once I had achieved the Auto CAD Elevations of the building I then had to transfer those drawings into Google sketch up and build my model of the building. This took me over 2-3 days overall to complete the building except the roofing as they wanted me to leave that out until they knew what design was best for the building and what the client liked best. Once complete, the client gave us a few ideas of roofing types which I then had to transfer into Google sketch up. I used the original roofing, a full roof, half roof and a part roof, which I then discussed with my colleagues which one they thought was best and they liked the half roof idea and this was transferred to the client to make a further decision which we're still a-waiting on. After finishing the designs, I was then assigned the task of creating an OS (On Site) map of the whole site on to Google sketch up, so that we could see what buildings surround the site building itself and how it looks from perspective. This took me overall a day to complete.

All Google sketch up drawings are to scale at 1:50.

Week 3 - 24th March - 28th March 2014

Coming up to the third week at Halliday Meecham I was given a new job, and this time it was to design set model on Google sketch up of Chorlton road in Manchester, in which I had to design this for a brochure that the company want to publish to show clients what them as a company have achieved and what they are about. This took me overall a good 4 days to complete due to the quality of the design standards they wanted. And the overall product looks great to look at.

After finishing that I then moved on to a Auto CAD drawing of Latchford in Warrington, and with this drawing I had to use the programme Adobe Photoshop to colour in the drawing of what each building was under a key colour, for example red was the colour to represent residential, and purple was the colour and represent retaerail. This took me an hour to complete and was an easy and simple task to do.

Week 2 - 17th March - 21st March 2014

For my second week at Halliday Meecham, I was still on the training on Google sketch up and I started the hard task of designing a pub on sketch up, which I had 5 photo's of the pub and had to design from guessing roughly how tall the building is, and also by counting its bricks. I found this really difficult and frustrating to work on, as I kept thinking I was doing it wrong and messing up constantly. But I got there in the end.

After finally finishing my training they introduced me to a program called Auto Desk Revit, which I was given the job called Sarah Point. Revit is sort of similar to Auto CAD but with this program it is quicker and you can do multiple plans in a few hours.
